Good Qualifying Results Go Unrewarded

A short appearance for Dominik and Mario Farnbacher and Akira Iida at the ROWE Six Hour ADAC Ruhr Cup Race: an excessively loud exhaust led to disqualification of the Lexus RC F GT3 after three laps.

Noise emissions are closely monitored at the Nürburgring, the smallest deviations inevitably resulting in a caution or even disqualification. This time, the Lexus RC F GT3 was hit when the steward banned it from the race with a black flag after three laps.

“That’s also a part of the development process,” explained Dominik Farnbacher. We received two new exhaust systems from Japan for testing. Regrettably, both systems exceeded the maximum permitted noise level of 130 dB. We tried installing a cover to reduce the sound pressure for the race, but this provisional measure sadly wasn’t enough.”

The conditions for a good result at the ROWE Six Hour ADAC Ruhr Cup Race were once again excellent. The Farnbacher trio confirmed the upward trend of its past races during qualifying with a 8:01.648 minute lap time, placing it nicely in starting position nine. Mario Farnbacher immediately edged his way forward to seventh place at the start of the race before having to slow down a bit after the redirected exhaust overheated the rear tyres. The ban was pronounced shortly after.

Now a new exhaust system has to be developed and tested before the next race. The eighth point-scoring race of the VLN Endurance Championship will meet on 24 September 2016.
